I'm in the process of painting the note cards, this is a time consuming job but nothing truly beats authentic hand painted cards for the holidays and weddings. My favorite commission I have finished this past week was the chair for A Friends House for their Benefit event in November.

This is a wonderful organization in my local community in McDonough, GA. A Friends House opened their doors in 1998 and over 1760 children have been welcomed since. A Friend’s House operates as a home for children in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services or the Juvenile Court System. Residents stay for an unspecified length of time while a best course of action is determined based on a child’s assessment needs. The Benefit helps to raise needed funds that help the organization meet the needs of the children, such as food, clothing and personal hygiene items to name a few.
The theme for the gala is All you need is Love, so I chose to paint a birds nest because it represented the love that the mother and father bird display when building its nest to welcome their young. They take great care in every branch that is picked in preparation for this wonderful event, a demonstration of love. The young hatch and are safe in the loving nest that was built for them. A Friends House provide a loving nest a home if you will, for the children who for whatever reason have been displaced. Every child is welcomed and cared for until each child can be placed in another loving environment and hopefully a permanent home. Below is the invitation to the event and I have provided a link to A Friends House if you would like to learn more about this wonderful organization and would like to learn how you can volunteer or donate much needed items.
If you live in my local community and would like to attend or donate to the benefit to be held November 30th at 7PM at the Merle Manders Conference Center in StockBridge, Ga. You can contact A Friends house at 678-432-1630 and ask for Nan Jenkins. http://www.afriendshouse.org/ways-to-give
