I have finished all the details I wanted to incorporate to
the chair and over the weekend I will hand rub the first coat of varnish. I hand rub the varnish to eliminate drips and
to ensure a nice coat to the entire piece. I will do this about 5 to 7 times in
between each coat. My hand painted
chairs are functional not just decorative so varnishing them well and letting
them cure correctly and finishing them off with a coat of natural wax will
ensure that the chair will be enjoyed for years to come.
I always recommend that my chairs be dusted with clean lint
free cloth there is no need to use furniture polish. The chairs can be waxed once a year; this
hardens over time and protects the decorative painting to the chair. I will sew up the fabric that inspired this chair and make a
throw out of it.
I'm already working on another piece of furniture, a dresser
which needs a lot of work. Poppy flowers and butterflies have inspired my
decorative theme for this piece and another
great piece for a girl's room.
